Joseph P. Diaz

Joe graduated from New York Military Academy in 1981, he continued his education at Mercer County Community College where he earned his Associates of Science Degree and the Certificate of Proficiency in Funeral Services. The completion of his National Board Exam, State of New Jersey Law Exam and a practical examination. He was awarded his practitioner of Mortuary Science license from the state of New Jersey in February of 1987. 

Joe was born in Bridgeton, New Jersey to Dr. Julio C. and Barbara (nee: Kunzman) Diaz MD, and resided in Kearny and Newark before moving to Cedar Grove with his family. Joe was past president of the Kearny Lions Club with his father who was also past president. Joe coached football for the Kearny Generals, and also coached soccer in Jersey City and Cedar Grove. In May of 2001, Joe received the second highest award given to an alumni at New York Military Academy the Meritorious Service Award. Joe served as second vice president and is presently serving on the Board of the Associates of Graduates at New York Military Academy, and is a member of the Knights of Columbus, San Salvador Council No. 299 in Perth Amboy as a Third Degree member. Joe is also a member of the Middlesex & Somerset County Funeral Directors Association, New Jersey State Funeral Directors Association and National Funeral Directors Association.

On August 2, 2012, a monumental accomplishment was granted to Joe when he was given the opportunity to begin the succession of the Gustav J. Novak Funeral Home to the next generation.

Joe has two two children, Joseph P., II and Samantha R. Diaz.

Gary E. Rumpf, Sr.

Gary graduated from Carteret High School in 1974, he continued his education at American Academy of McAllister Institute of Funeral Services Inc. in New York in 1977. Gary has been a director with the Gustav J. Novak Funeral Home for over 20 years, and since January 1998 has been the manager\owner.

Born in Perth Amboy, he later moved to Sewaren and then to Carteret with his family where he was raised. Gary began his career at the Rumpf Funeral Home in Carteret with his father and later as associated with Uncle Gus at Novak’s. He then later married his wife Joan were they raised their three children in Carteret and Perth Amboy.

Gary was past president of the Middlesex-Somerset County Funeral Directors Association, past president of the Perth Amboy Chamber of Commerce, Past president of the Carteret Honorary PBA, member of the National Funeral Directors Association, Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Father Carey Council No.1280, Carteret, a member of the Disable Life Carteret Volunteer Fire Department, New Jersey Exempt Fireman’s Association and New Jersey State Fireman’s Association and a fourth degree and advocate of the Knights of Columbus San Salvador Council No. 299, Perth Amboy and a board member of Perth Amboy Catholic. Gary is a parishioner and member of the Holy Name Society and Good Shepard Parish at Holy Spirit Church, and a member of the Puerto Rican Association for Human Development in Perth Amboy.

Aida B. “Babby” Canete

Babby was born in Havana, Cuba and came to Perth Amboy with her family in 1998. She graduated from Perth Amboy High School in 2007. Babby is fluent in English and Spanish. She received her beautician’s license in 2009 and her AS Degree in Business Administration in 2019. She is currently working in Glow Hair Salon in Perth Amboy where her family owns and operates. Babby is the mother of three children Yasmin, Michael and Kristina they live in Perth Amboy. She enjoys spending time with her family & friends.
