Frank G. Protonentis, 62, of Perth Amboy passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2018. Frank lived most of his life in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, where he was born to George and Rose Marie Protonentis. After attending the Middlesex County Vocational School, Frank went west to work for a while with his brother Ted in the copper mines of Casa Grande, Arizona. After a couple years, Frank decided he wanted to serve his country in the United States Air Force, so he enlisted and was stationed, first, in Pensacola, Florida, and, subsequently, in Ramstein, Germany. During his service, Frank was trained as a medic (Medical Service Specialist), a role he both relished and was proud to perform. The knowledge and experience Frank gained as a medic served him and others well on many occasions later in life.
After leaving the service and obtaining his CDL license, Frank sought work as a truck driver- first driving box trucks, then 18 wheelers. Trucking became his passion for many years until he was forced to retire prematurely due to health issues. During his working years, Frank developed a love for salt water fishing and darts - he was a member of the Pepe’s Place Dart Team, which won a number of trophies for their throwing prowess. Frank continued to wear his Pepe’s Place Dart Team jacket with pride until the very end.
More recently, Frank was persuaded to adopt a stray kitten that had taken up residence at the local Veteran’s Post. Over time, he came to love Tippy, and a second adoptee, Bootsy, and they became his life. The love he had for his two cats exemplified the kind and loving person that Frank was.
Frank was predeceased by his parents George and Rose Marie Protonentis and his brother Theodore Protonentis. Frank is survived by his loving and devoted sister and brother-in-law Annette and Alan DeFalco, his loving and devoted partner of 40 years Monica Sainz, his sister-in-law Maria Elena Gallardo, and many extended family members and friends.
Frank’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the staff of the Raritan Bay Medical Center Clinic and the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) of Middlesex County for their compassionate care of Frank, both recently and over the many years.
Donations in memory of Frank may be made to a charity of ones choosing.
